Microsoft Account Registration - Gen4 Card

In this article, you will learn how to add a Multi-Pass Card as a security key directly to your Microsoft account.

In order to do so, you need to first do the initial setup of your card by following the steps in this article.

  1. Navigate to your Microsoft account’s security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
  2. Select “Add sign-in method” 
  3. A popup window will appear. Select the “Security key” method from the drop down and click “Add” 
  4. At this point, another window will appear asking to specify the security key type. Select “NFC Device” and click “Next”.
    1. Please note that you must select NFC Device even if you are using a USB card reader.
  5. Depending the browser you are using, you may see the following prompt. Please select “External security key or built-in sensor” option.
  6. At this point, you will be asked to confirm that you are setting up a security key to sign in to Microsoft as your user name. Another window will appear to confirm additional details of the setup.  
  7. Windows will ask you to tap your Multi-Pass on the NFC reader.
    1. While keeping your finger on the biometric sensor, tap your card on the NFC reader and hold steadily
  8. Name your security key.
