Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to your Microsoft account’s security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Sign in with your Microsoft credentials if prompted.
- Click Add sign-in method.
- From the dropdown list, select Security key.
- A popup window appears. Select NFC Device as the type of security key (even if you’re using a USB-based reader).
- Click Next.
Depending on your browser, you may see a prompt asking you to choose “External security key or built-in sensor” — select this option.
- Windows will prompt you to insert or tap your Multi-Pass Card on the NFC reader. While keeping your finger on the biometric sensor of the card, tap or present the card to the reader until the process completes.
- Once the physical registration is complete, you can provide a friendly name for your security key (for example: “My Multi-Pass Card”). Click Next or Done to finish.
- Your Microsoft account’s Security Info page will now show the new security key listed under your sign-in methods.
Ensure your NFC reader is securely connected and the card is held steadily during the tap to avoid communication loss.
If you don’t see the option for “Security key” on the Microsoft security info page, your organization or account type might not yet support this method. See Microsoft’s official guidance.
You can register up to 10 security keys for your account.
